Tiger Woods has announced his intention to participate in the upcoming 2022 Masters, but the 46-year-old golfer is not considered to be amongst the favourites to win the tournament.

Having not taken part in any event against high-level competition since the 2020 Masters, Woods expressed his gratitude towards the surgeons and physios that helped him plan his return to action.

“As of right now, I feel like I am going to play,” Woods told a press conference.

“I’ve worked hard. My team has been unbelievable. I’ve been lucky to have had great surgeons and great PTs and physios that have worked on me virtually every day. And we’ve worked hard to get to this point. It’s been a tough, tough year.

“Now everything is focused on how do I get myself into the position where I’m on that back nine on Sunday with a chance [to win].

“When I decide to hang it up, when I feel like I can’t win anymore, then that will be it.

“But I feel like I can still do it, and I feel like I still have the hands to do it, the body’s moving good enough.”

Tiger Woods

“Tiger has been wonderful for us all in this room,” said Rory McIlroy.

“He creates attention on the game of golf that no one else can. That’s great for his peers. It’s great for the media. It’s great for this golf club. It’s great for everyone. So, any time Tiger Woods is involved, it’s a wonderful thing.”
