Two legendary golfers, Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson will play together at official PGA tours.

The pair has already filed the application for the upcoming U. S. Open, according to a Twitter post by TWLEGION. Golfers usually have to wait until their application has been accepted by the authority to know whether they would play or not.

However, because Woods won the Masters and Mickelson 2019 won the PGA 2021 championship, they were eligible to take part in the tournament. 2022 U. S. Open will be the first time Mickelson will play in a tournament since his controversial comments against the Tour and temporary withdrawal from public life.

According to the U.S. Open official website, many golfers, including the defending champion Jon Rahm, are exempted from the qualifying round. The players who have won the championships added on the website, like U. S. Senior Open, U.S. Amateur, Masters, and PGA Championship, are eligible for it. Apart from Woods, Scottie Scheffler and Dustin Johnson are some of the Masters Champions who are exempted from qualifying rounds. Meanwhile, Collin Morikawa, Brooks Koepka, Justin Thomas, and Jordan Spieth have also already qualified for the championship.

Since he turned pro in 1992, Mickelson has won six majors but not yet the U.S. Open. The golfer missed the chance of winning the event for the first time in 1999 against Payne Stewart. Mickelson lost again against Geoff Ogilvy in 2006.

He lost a major with two occasions behind in 2004, 2009 and 2013. And especially, Mickelson also lost to Woods in 2003 against his 3-shot lead. Tiger has won the title of the US title. Woods won the first US degree A.S. in 2000.

He won another 8 titles, including two other majors and a World Golf Championship, in the same year. Tiger’s last U.S. Open was in 2008 with a playoff against Rocco Mediate.
