Tiger-Woods-and-Phil-Mickelson

Tiger Woods and defending champion Phil Mickelson will compete in next week’s US PGA Championship.

Mickelson announced in February he was taking a break from golf after inflammatory comments he made about the Saudi-backed golf league surfaced, while Woods has competed just once, at last month’s Masters, since being involved in a car crash in February 2021.

Woods, who nearly lost his right leg in the accident, opened with an encouraging one-under-par 71 at Augusta National but went on to finish 13 over for the week and in 47th place.

He and Mickelson are among 17 PGA champions in the field for the year’s second major, which will be played May 19-22 at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The final spot is being held for the winner of the AT&T Byron Nelson, which begins on Thursday.

Mickelson became golf’s oldest major champion at last year’s PGA Championship when, less than a month shy of turning 51, he held off Brooks Koepka and Louis Oosthuizen to triumph by two shots at Kiawah Island’s Ocean Course.

Tiger Woods has already said he plans to play The Open at St. Andrews in July, while the 15-time major champion played a practice round at Southern Hills last month.

The last time the PGA Championship was held at the venue, Woods triumphed by two shots to win the event for the fourth time – although the course layout has since undergone a dramatic renovation.

After his final round at Augusta, Woods said: “I don’t quite have the endurance I would like to have had, but as of a few weeks ago, didn’t even know if I was going to play in this event.

“To go from that to here, we’re excited about the prospects of the future, about training, about getting into that gym and doing some other stuff to get my leg stronger, which we haven’t been able to do because it needed more time to heal.

“I think it needs a couple more days to heal after this, but we’ll get back after it, and we’ll get into it.”

Tiger Woods isn’t ready to give up on golfing, despite placing in 47th place in the 2022 Masters Golf Tournament.

Tiger Woods, 46, returned to the golf course two weeks ago for the first time since the terrible car accident on February 2021. Although Tiger – which has won the master five times – finished in 47th place, sources close to Hollywoodlife. Exclusively that he did not give up on golf. “Tigers are not destroyed. Even if he is 100% healthy, to win the Masters is an achievement,” said the source to us.

Following Masters, which was won by the 25-year-old American golfer Scottie Scheffler, Tiger shared his true feelings about losing on Instagram, admitted that he did not play for his full potential and thank his fans because he still used it. “I don’t play the best out there, but only to get support and awards from all fans, I don’t think the word – the word can describe it. Congratulations for @ Scottie.Scheffler for an extraordinary victory. This has become a special run, “Tiger said.

When fans know, the personal life of the tiger from the golf course has been chaotic, including a high profile divorce from the Swedish model Elin Nordegren, 42, to whom he married for six years from 2004 to 2010 and shared two children. However, according to people in golf, no one affects tigers. “He did not listen to noise or boos. He was only determined to take it one day at a time and improved. His family really joined and it was a big inspiration to keep moving forward,” they told us.

Tiger confirmed that he was playing in the 2022 Master tournament on April “at this time, I felt I would play,” Tiger told people. “I will play nine more holes tomorrow. My recovery is good. I am too excited about how I have recovered … my team has been fantastic.” This announcement came a little more than one year after the tiger almost lost his life in an accident in Los Angeles. At the end of February, the tiger was removed from his vehicle with a “jaw of life” after being reversed several times, producing a lot of serious injuries, including two broken legs and broken ankles. He has recovered fully.
