Phil Mickelson missed the cut at the US Open. After a first day in which he finished eight strokes over par, he was unable to prevail on the second day either.

The American, among those who has taken the step to participate in the LIV Golf, an alternative circuit to the PGA Tour financed by Saudi Arabia, did not have his best day to the point that he thought he hit a spectator with his ball after the tee shot on Hole 3.

Phil Mickelson arrived at the spot where he had sent the ball, where he found a fan sitting on the ground with an ice pack on his head after being treated by medics after being hit by a ball.

The first thing Mickelson did was to apologise and give him one of the gloves he plays with, but he was immediately told that it wasn’t him. The impact came from the sixth hole and from a shot by Sam Horsfield.

“It’s just instinct. Normally you’d think it’s me,” Mickelson told the crowd after learning that he was not to blame for what happened.
