Taylor Fritz, 24, went from watching players practicing at the Indian Wells Masters to competing at the tournament and enjoying success. After beating Miomir Kecmanovic in the Indian Wells quarterfinal, Fritz recalled the time when he watched Andy Murray’s practice.

After Murray was done with his practice, he was kind enough to give Fritz and the rest of the kids autoghraps. Fritz made his Masters breakthrough in Indian Wells last year as he made the semifinal before losing to Nikoloz Basilashvili.

Fritz proved that his last year’s run to the Indian Wells semifinal wasn’t a fluke as he also reached the semifinal at the event this year. “I remember watching Andy Murray’s match when he was younger. They had him on, hard to believe, one of the side courts.

I remember that, getting his autograph,” Fritz recalled, per Mario Boccardi. “Those are the moments why I play tennis, the reason why I wanted to be a professional athlete as a kid. It’s the reason why I do it, is that moment when you win, you can just kind of finally relax, let it all out.

Especially with the crowd, I’m taking it in.”

Fritz happy for himself and Andrey Rublev

Fritz and Rublev went against each other during junior days and so far the Russian has had more success on the ATP Tour.

Fritz, who is also a top-20 player, is happy that he and Rublev have managed to turn their dreams into a reality and become good players on the ATP Tour. Fritz has set high goals for himself as he has stated that his goal is break into the top-10 this year.

“I’m thinking back when we were 17 years old playing in the juniors, just like before either one of us were having any kind of professional results. It’s really cool to see how we’ve come up together and the kind of results we’re producing now,” Fritz said.
