“Oh Emma Raducanu – how can you?” He wrote together with Raducanu’s photo.

British tennis player Katie Swan added: “Oh no, how we let this happen.”

Raducanu was born in Toronto but grew up in Southeast London.

The 19-year-old said he had been strongly influenced by his love for Tottenham.

“The whole team is basically a fan of Big Spurs and I feel like they refresh me,” he told reporters at Stuttgart.

“They desperately try to make me behind them. I don’t always follow football, but I feel like now, because of them, I feel a kind of connection.

“I like to follow the euro last year and watch Harry Kane, who is clearly the captain of England, and the son (Heung-min), I am a fan of heavy too.

Emma Raducanu keen to make statement on clay

Raducanu will start his first official WTA tournament on Clay on Wednesday against Storm Sanders Australia.

Open US champion said he wanted to make a statement on the surface he believed to be the strongest in the long run.

“This will be a season of exciting clay,” he said.

“I’m not sure how it will go. I keep telling everyone around me that one day clay will be my surface and I still believe it.

“I think the game-wise on clay, especially when you play outside, you must definitely be more patient and build the point.

“You can’t just hit a big shot, while in a hard court, you might be able to get a weak shot. You really need to build more points, which need more energy and physical demand.

“You just have to be more cunning, I think, and I think this is a good lesson, especially for someone who is younger like me, to develop more skills.

“I look forward to spending more time on clay as many years have passed because I like to slide and move, and it can almost be repeated repeatedly.”

Raducanu came from a disappointing appearance at the Billie Cup Jean King where he lost 6-1 6-1 to the Vondrousova marketa from the Czech Republic.

Raducanu dealt with blisters on his right leg and hampered throughout the match, before the Czechs won a tie 3-2 in England.

Harriet Dart flattened the tie at 2-2 with a 6-0 5-7 6-2 victory over Linda Fruhvirtova who was 16 years old, but the Czech Republic won their place in the final after Vondrousova and Karolina Muchova beat Dart and Katie Swan 6-1 7- 5 In decisive double rubber.
